Why tech didn’t save us from covid-19

Why tech didn’t save us from covid-19 is easy to see. It’s simple; the US military and intelligence services at that time viewed the computer as an equal to or more important than the human brain in terms of intellectual prowess. In their opinion, a computer was a way of organizing the complex world of electronic communication. It represented the past, the halcyon days of the Internet, where anything you wanted could be instantly downloaded to your computer.

That’s where it all went wrong. It turns out that all the years of cyber warfare that the US and its allies used against their enemies in Iraq and Afghanistan were nothing more than a waste of time and money. They were not using computers as part of their strategy to win the “culture war” or as a way to gain an edge in business or science. But in fact they were doing just the opposite, wasting an enormous amount of money, resources and lives on something that turned out to be a complete bust in the real world.

Now that we’re in the twenty-first century, do you think we should still use computers? Do you think it’s an age of shrinking budgets and a shrinking economy? I don’t. And I’m not alone. A number of top business people, most of whom are more than twice my age, disagree with me on this.

The fact is that, while the use of computers and technology has declined in many ways, particularly in the “tech economy” that has been developed around the computer, it’s also increased in other ways. For example, it’s now possible for anyone, almost anywhere to have access to the Internet. In the early days of the Internet, it took a pretty big machine – a personal computer – to have access to a lot of data. And it was necessary to connect the personal computer to a network.

That meant that someone had to pay for that connection, whether they were a business or a person. Now, thanks to broadband connections, the cost of running a computer network has gone down significantly, making it available to everyone. It also means that the cost of maintaining a large, central computer network has gone down as well.

So in addition to allowing people to access the Internet, without having to pay for a huge investment in a computer network, broadband has eliminated the cost of maintaining the biggest single expense in the country. Imagine the savings that would be experienced by businesses in hiring more employees, or in using the latest technology to provide their customers with better service. It’s easy to understand why consumers, and businesses in particular, are enticing to use the latest technologies, such as cell phones, iPads and social media. We just need to learn to harness those technologies to the best of our ability. That’s what makes the internet so interesting.
