These volcanoes form from lava that erupts on the planet’s surface. The cooled lava then hardens into rock and can form mountains hundreds of meters high. If there was water present in the past, there may be sulfuric rocks buried beneath the surface which contain organic molecules that were heated up when the volcano erupted.
