Democracy day in Nepal

“Democracy Day” in Nepal is a commemoration of the peaceful resistance movements that were used to gain democracy for the people of Nepal. Peaceful civil disobedience was used by the people of Nepal to gain democracy for their country in the early 1990’s. Since then the country has not looked back and the Nepalese people have gone on to gain more democracy day in Nepal each year. On this day, all across the country, people mark their desire to exercise their right to vote for a government of freedom and fair elections.

For many centuries the Nepalese people have been fighting for freedom and they have achieved a lot. On this day, the happiness of the Nepalese people is celebrated in many different ways. They celebrate by burning an effigy of the former ruler, The Queen of Sheba. Another form of this freedom celebration is when the people wear the Dharamshala, which is the ancient yellow robe that the Monarchy first worn. The Dharamshala is also a symbol of unity and peace.

During the early days of the Nepalese Independence movement, people would observe these traditional and ethnic traditions and at that time they were welcoming the new democracy. A lot of sacrifices were made by the people at that time and hence there were very low levels of trust between the majority of the people and the Monarchy. However, now since the evolution of the Nepalese society and the freedom movement, more changes have taken place. Today, many Nepalese people no longer have any sense of ethnic and cultural boundaries and they celebrate every day of freedom like every other person. In fact, today Nepal is celebrating its 50th year of freedom and the main motto of this celebration is to build a free nation.
